The Pareto analysis is a simple aid to setting priorities.

The basis of the tool is the perception that usually around 20% of reasons generate around 80% of failures (Pareto principle).

In order to optimize the cost-benefit ratio, we have to focus on the „vital few“ things instead of the „trivial many“.

The Pareto Chart can be used to either classify symptoms or causes and to break the problem down (what, when, where, who)
